AMONG PATRIOTS AND PERSIANS

This March, Philipse Manor Hall is excited to present, Among Patriots and Persians: Exploring the Collections of Alexander Smith Cochran, a unique program that provides visitors with an in-depth look at the Cochran collections at Philipse Manor Hall and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  For Philipse Manor Hall, Cochran acquired portraits of presidents, statesmen, military leaders, artists, and educators with the goal of making the Manor Hall a place of “patriotic interest.” At the Met, he was instrumental in the creation of the museum’s Islamic art collection and donated twenty-four Persian manuscripts, thirty single-page paintings, and one bookbinding.

Through two unique, docent-led tours, this program will explore Cochran’s diverse interests and his role at the museums.  Part 1 is a tour of Philipse Manor Hall’s Cochran Collection of American Portraiture – participants can choose between  Wednesday, March 19 at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday, March 26 at 2 p.m.  Part 2 is a tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Islamic Galleries on Wednesday, March 26 at 10:30 a.m.

Admission for both tours is $35 for members of Friends of Philipse Manor Hall and $40 for non-members. Participants will meet at the Manor Hall for Part 1 and at the Met for Part 2. Transportation is not included. Tickets are limited so please make your reservations by Tuesday, March 18.  To purchase tickets, please contact Philipse Manor Hall's Public Programs Coordinator by phone, (914) 965-4027 x102, or email.
